The Wonder of Worm Bins
The Wonder of Worm Bins
City of Ann Arbor is hosting The Wonder of Worm Bins. Saturday, February 11th at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Materials Recovery Facility - 4150 Platt Rd. Participation fee $25. Worm bins have found their way into homes, classrooms, and offices across the country as a method of reducing the amount of food waste thrown out with the garbage or down the drain. This fun and educational method of composting with worms, called vermicomposting, also produces a rich source of plant nutrients coveted by gardeners. During this hands-on workshop participants will put together a worm bin while learning how to successfully maintain it. The workshop will be led by environmental educator and worm enthusiast Sarah Archer, owner of Iris Waste Diversion Specialists. The workshop fee includes bin, red worms, bedding material, supplies, worm bin care guide and post-workshop vermicomposting support.
